Artist Statement:

In my work I use a single, abstract image of light itself, a reflection, a highlight, a shadow, a flash of direct illumination. These images are without narrative. Multiple chromogenic prints from the infinitely reproducible original image are collaged together to create a unique work. Employed like an individual brushstroke, each print covers, overlaps and exposes different aspects of the same view. The image is deformed, obscured and twisted. The individual photographic prints become the basic unit of a more complex whole.

My work is a record of light, an abstract picture of nothing, a point of brilliance in an endless progression. For me, abstraction is the process that frees the mind and allows it to move between the real, the imaginary and the symbolic. It engages the intellect and emotions. The work addresses space, light, color, movement, seriality and process while reaching for an abstraction that is both accessible and transformative. It uses photography’s inherent qualities of precise recording to sensually engage while portraying a more universal visual experience. I choose to create tension and intensity by dressing the light in colors to evoke the feeling that light means life and is mysterious.
