Bridgette Mayer Gallery Holds Benefit Exhibition Supporting Philadelphia Dance Company BalletX: Exhibition will be on view September 5th – October 4th, 2014 with an opening reception Friday, September 5th, 5 – 8 PM.

The Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to announce the fourth annual Benefit Exhibition – this year to once again benefit BalletX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet. More than 220 artists have been selected to create 400 paintings, photographs, collages, and sculptures for the exhibition which will run from September 5th through October 9th, 2014. Each artist is working with one or two ten inch square panels generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. Philadelphia, national, and international artists from every point in their career—from recent MFA graduates to established artists included in prominent museum collections – will exhibit side by side in the gallery. Each work will be sold for $500, $1,000, $1,500 or $2,000 with 20% of the proceeds benefitting BalletX. .

Last year’s benefit raised an impressive $17,000 for BalletX, which helped support the creation of three world premiere commissions for the company’s Fall Series 2013. During this year’s exhibition as part of the Neighborhood Fringe Festival, BalletX dancers will perform intimate improvisational solos in the gallery space inspired by the artwork on display. Performances will take place:

o Tuesday, September 9th at 7PM
o Friday, September 12th at 7PM
o Sunday, September 14th at 1PM

This year we are pleased to have several sponsors for the exhibition allowing us to concentrate our fundraising efforts. Our major sponsor, Cecil Baker + Partners, was the architect for the Bridgette Mayer Gallery renovation in 2011. Cecil Baker + Partners is an architecture firm providing design services to governmental, educational, institutional and private sector clients. Established in 1982 and based in Philadelphia, the firm's services include feasibility studies, programming, design of new structures, adaptive reuse of existing structures, and interior design. Cecil Baker + Partners creates buildings and sites that bring people in touch with culture, community and nature. The firm’s guideposts of the persuasion of place, the power of simple shapes, the choreography of passage, and the shared exploration evolve cohesive, harmonious projects that offer inhabitants an intimate and unique relationship with their environment. Cecil Baker + Partners is the recipient of over 50 national and regional design awards. Our other generous sponsors for the 2014 Benefit Exhibition are Visit Philadelphia and Philadelphia Style Magazine.

BalletX, founded by Christine Cox and Matthew Neenan in 2005, unites distinguished choreographers with an outstanding company of world-class dancers to forge new works of athleticism, emotion, and grace. The company is committed to challenging the boundaries of classical ballet by producing new works of the highest quality and integrity that bring the combined visions of choreographers and dancers to life and cultivate in audiences a collective appetite for bold new dance. BalletX’s 2014-2015 season opens at The Wilma Theater with Fall Series 2014 November 19-23. Visit www.balletx.org to learn more.
