Philadelphia, PA – January 3, 2023. Bridgette Mayer Gallery is proud to announce the upcoming solo exhibition, Nathan Pankratz: New Paintings and a Reckoning. The exhibition will be on view at Bridgette Mayer Gallery from Tuesday, January 31 to Saturday, February 25, 2023, with exclusive, appointment-based previews beginning in mid-January. The gallery will host an artist reception and happy hour celebrating the exhibition on Friday, February 3 from 5:00 to 7:30pm.

New Paintings and a Reckoning is Pankratz’s third solo exhibition at the gallery and features 20 new and recent paintings and three mixed media collages from the artist’s latest body of work. Pankratz draws inspiration from ancient poems and texts concerning work and toil, written by Virgil, Solomon, and Marcus Aurelius. The designs in many of his paintings are derived from text passages that the artist writes out and mirrors on itself, creating patterns and symmetry. Pankratz states:

In many ways the paintings here are more human, in scale, form, and application, than many I have made before. They are raw, reflective, meditative, and spiritual. I have located clarity and purpose in what I did and who it is for. Ultimately, I try to make work about something bigger than the work.

About the Artist:
Nate Pankratz was born in Grand Island, NY and raised in the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern PA. Pankratz received his B.F.A. from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and his M.F.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
